Preventing Expulsion 1 – The Teaching Pyramid

The Pyramid Model is a proven way to address suspension and expulsion of young children. The Pyramid Model promotes healthy social-emotional development for all children, prevents challenging behaviors, and intervenes when children have serious behavior problems. This model is for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. The learner objectives (1) describe poor outcomes for children who are suspended or expelled; (2) describe the four levels of the Pyramid Model; and (3) describe ways teachers can support children’s social and emotional development in early childhood classrooms.
