Selecting Toys for Infants and Toddlers
Play and exploration are necessary for brain growth during the first two years. The type of toys children play with determine what area of the brain get “wired.” For optimal brain development, skilled caregivers must match toys to children’s developmental skills, provide many opportunities for play, and interact one-on-one to scaffold children’s use of toys. As a result of this course, learners will discuss nine factors that influence infants and toddlers selection of toys; identify appropriate toys for infants and toddlers; and list nine toy safety concerns for infants and toddlers.
